"The aim was to give the room a single function, i.e. a cosy living room incorporating both a built-in bookcase and a space dedicated to a functional office for telecommuting, in which I could store various documents and work files hidden in the niches provided for this purpose.
That's why, after hesitating for a long time about the structure of the bookcase between wood and plasterboard, I finally opted for a mix of these two materials: wood for its warmth and BA13 plasterboard for its practicality in creating the spaces and finishing them with white paint so that the structure could blend in with the living room wall, giving the room added depth.
The base of the structure is thus made of BA13 plasterboard, onto which I laid, glued and fixed 2
solid oak panels 2.6 cm thick with blanchon solid oil snow.
Once the two support panels for the TV cabinet and desk had been fixed to the plasterboard structure, I overlaid new plasterboard structures all the way up to the ceiling, to give the whole an aesthetic, functional and harmonious appearance.
Of course, I took care to insert the electrical cables into the structure throughout its construction, enabling me to create electrical outlets that supply various boxes and other consoles in the lower part of the cabinet, as well as a computer with USB ports located inside the niches on the desk side and not visible in the attached photos.
Once the unit was finished, I placed a new order on your site to build the shelves on both the TV and desk sides of the structure. The shelves are made of the same wood as the panels, namely oak.
For the TV unit part, I opted for racks with cleats, giving me an adjustable bookcase.
Finally, as I'm a fan of the industrial look, I chose to decorate in this style with :
An old station clock from the '50s and a vintage lamp from the '60s,
A switch with 3 indus-style light points made entirely of copper. The first lights up the vintage lamp, the second the clock, which has been electrified, and the third, the little lamp I designed and created entirely out of polished cast-iron plumbing pipes."
Congratulations and thanks again to Julien for this impressive achievement.
