Claustra: Definition and Uses
A claustra is a space separator that stands out from other partitions thanks to its openwork structure, which maintains light flow and visual continuity between areas. With its spaced wooden slats, it offers many benefits:
- Define and divide living spaces gently, without enclosing them;
- Add a decorative touch to your interior, especially with customization options;
- Improve indoor airflow and lighting by allowing air and light to circulate;
- Enhance safety when used as a guardrail in certain stair configurations.
Modular, aesthetic, and functional, it fits perfectly in a living room, open kitchen, office, or commercial space.
Why choose a solid wood claustra?
A solid wood claustra ensures both beauty and durability. Wood is exceptionally robust and resistant to temperature and humidity changes. Its natural texture and warm tones create a calming atmosphere. Moreover, it’s an eco-friendly material, sourced from responsibly managed forests.
We’ve selected three wood species for their quality:
- Oak: strong and elegant, with a pronounced grain for a noble and warm appearance;
- Beech: light in tone with a slightly pink hue, valued for its durability and elegance;
- Rubberwood: economical and stable, perfect for a Scandinavian or minimalist style.
Solid wood requires little maintenance. For cleaning, a dry or slightly damp cloth with mild soap is sufficient. Over time, if your claustra shows signs of wear, a light sanding followed by a new coat of finish will restore its original shine.

Preparing Your Project and Installation
To order a custom wooden claustra, proper preparation is essential.
- Measurements: measure the height between the floor and ceiling in several places and use the smallest measurement. If your claustra extends from floor to ceiling, subtract 1 cm to use the provided adjustment screws.
- Installation: our claustras are delivered ready to install. For optimal stability, we recommend screwing or gluing the top rail to the ceiling.
- Finishing: to protect your claustra, we offer an oiled finish applied in our workshop. If installing in a humid room, choose a suitable finish product.
