What is the difference between laminate and melamine?

Laminate and melamine are two different decorative coatings applied to wood panels. Laminate is a thicker and more resistant high-pressure laminate (HPL), while melamine is a decorative paper sheet impregnated with resin applied directly to the panel.

Laminate characteristics:

  • Greater thickness (0.5 to 1.5 mm)
  • Higher resistance to impact and scratches
  • Suitable for intensive use

Melamine characteristics:

  • Thinner layer (0.1 to 0.2 mm)
  • Economical solution
  • Perfect for standard furniture and fittings
