Is laminate real wood?

Laminate is not solid wood but a composite material made of several layers of kraft paper impregnated with resins. The decorative surface mimics the appearance of wood (or other natural materials) thanks to high-definition printing covered with a transparent protective layer.

This material is composed of:

  • Decorative layer: printed paper reproducing wood grain and textures or other materials
  • Intermediate layers: kraft papers impregnated with phenolic resins
  • Core: usually a particle board or MDF panel

The laminate panel offers excellent resistance to scratches, moisture, and daily wear. This composition makes it a preferred choice for interior design, especially for worktops, cabinet fronts, and wall coverings that require durability and easy maintenance.
