Why spring is the ideal time to transform your interior

There is something almost instinctive about this need for renewal that takes hold of each of us as soon as the first sunny days arrive. The urge to open the windows wide, move the furniture around, change the colors. It is not a whim: it is a natural response to the evolution of our environment. What if you gave it a concrete, lasting form with wood?

01

Natural light changes the perception of space

In spring, daylight lengthens and changes, becoming more golden, more horizontal, more flattering. In this light, pale wood reveals all its warmth: oak grain comes to life, ash takes on a honey tone, rubberwood seems to glow from within. Your rooms gain depth and softness without you having to do much, other than choosing the right material.

02

Natural materials are returning to the heart of trends

After years dominated by concrete and metal, interiors are reconnecting with the living world. Wood, linen, rattan, terracotta—these natural materials are back, not as a passing trend, but as an obvious choice. Solid wood in particular answers a deep aspiration: that of a home that tells a story, that has texture, history, and uniqueness.

03

Warm minimalism: the major trend of the year

“Warm minimalism” is establishing itself as the dominant aesthetic in those interiors that make us dream on Instagram or in the pages of Côté Maison. Few objects, lots of meaning. Clean lines, yet rich materials. Untreated wood, slightly raw surfaces, simple shapes that let the space breathe. Spring is the perfect time to embrace this philosophy: declutter and, in return, add a few wooden pieces that make all the difference.

8 wooden decor ideas for a successful Spring Refresh

Whether you have an afternoon ahead of you or a whole weekend, there is an idea for you. Most of these projects can be completed with one or two wooden panels, a few tools, and a good dose of motivation. All of them can be made with custom-cut boards ordered directly from ilicut.com.

01

Add a minimalist wall shelf

A simple oak or ash board, with an invisible fixing built into the wall: the result is instantly elegant. No need for visible brackets or unsightly plates. The board seems to float, light as a thought. Ideal for placing a few books, a vase, or a candle. A project that can be completed in less than two hours.

02

Create a small entry console

The entryway is often the forgotten part of decor—and yet it creates the first impression. A solid wood panel placed on two white metal hairpin legs creates a console that is both functional and graphic. The contrast between natural wood and matte metal is especially successful in spring, when the light plays across surfaces. A decorative lamp, a bouquet of dried flowers: there you have it.

03

Make a natural wood headboard

The bedroom is a sanctuary. And nothing transforms a bedroom as radically as a beautiful headboard. Imagine a large natural oak panel, cut to the exact dimensions of your bed, positioned directly against the wall at the right height: the effect is immediate, almost architectural. The warmth of wood in the bedroom invites rest and softness. This may be the most impactful project on this list, and one of the simplest to create.

Install a wooden claustra to structure the space

In a studio or an open-plan apartment, a wooden claustra is both a decorative and architectural solution. It defines spaces without closing them off, lets light circulate, and creates a play of shadows and volumes that is especially beautiful in spring. Regularly spaced slats in a wooden frame, or floor-standing claustras to position as you wish: the graphic effect is guaranteed.

05

Add a shelf under a mirror

A small transformation, big impact. A slim light-wood shelf placed just below the mirror in the entryway or bathroom instantly creates a composition, almost like a painting. You can place a bud vase, a fragrance diffuser, or a few decorative items on it. The mirror and the shelf echo one another, and the whole arrangement takes on a very curated feel, with no special effort.

Create a bench for plants

Spring calls for greenery, and plants need a space that does them justice. A bench with an oak top creates a true urban jungle corner. Play with heights and shapes, mix foliage, add a few cuttings in beautiful ceramic pots. Wood and green complement each other perfectly: together, they recreate a piece of nature indoors.

07

Turn an empty wall into a light bookshelf

That large living room wall you have been looking at for months without knowing what to do with it? It calls for a light bookshelf, not a bulky enclosed unit, but a series of floating shelves at different heights, in light solid wood, creating a lively, evolving, personal composition. Books, travel objects, plants, vinyl records: an open bookshelf is the portrait of its owner.

08

Add a wooden top to an existing piece of furniture

The quickest, most economical makeover, and one of the most effective. A simple custom-made wooden top placed on an IKEA chest of drawers, a TV unit, or even a coffee table is enough to completely transform the piece. Wood instantly adds nobility to standard furniture. And if your dimensions are unusual, that is not a problem: that is precisely why Ilicut offers custom cutting.

How to choose the right wooden panel

Before ordering, three parameters need to be adjusted according to your project. Here are our recommendations.

Thickness

For a light shelf (books, plants, decorative objects) or a headboard: 18 to 20 mm is enough. For a bench or a console: go for at least 40 mm for strength and a more substantial look.

Finish

Raw for workshop use or if you want to stain it yourself. Fine-sanded for direct installation after a simple coat of oil. Factory-oiled for noble species (oak, ash): the wood is ready to install, nourished and protected. The oiled finish is our recommendation for 90% of indoor projects.

Dimensions

This is the whole point of custom-made: you order exactly what you need. For a shelf over 80 cm long without an intermediate support, a minimum thickness of 25 mm is recommended.

→ METHOD

Easily complete these projects with custom-made panels

The main reason these projects fail is often the cutting. A poorly cut panel that does not hold on the wall or sticks out by a few centimeters often results in a loss of everyday comfort as well as a significant impact on the overall aesthetics of the room. At Ilicut, we deliver panels cut to your exact dimensions. All that remains are three steps.

01

The cutting: already done

You enter your dimensions into our online configurator, choose your wood species and thickness, and we cut it with a precision digital saw. You receive your panel clean, straight, and ready to install.

02

The finish: simple and quick

If your panel is not delivered oiled, one or two coats of finishing products (oil or varnish) are enough to protect and enhance the wood. Apply with a cloth, let it dry for a few hours, and it is done. For a darker shade, a water-based stain before the oil gives good results.

03

The installation: stress-free

For shelves and ledges: prioritize the use of wall plugs and screws in the wall studs, or discreet wall rails. For headboards: it is often enough to fix the panel directly to the partition wall (take the time to find the studs with a detector—your fixings will be all the stronger for it).
