What is Valchromat?
Valchromat is a through-coloured wood fibre (MDF) panel, manufactured in Portugal by the company Valbopan. Unlike standard MDF panels that are only coloured on the surface, Valchromat is coloured throughout the material, ensuring a uniform shade across the entire thickness—even after cutting or machining.
It is made from wood fibres sourced from sustainably managed forests, mixed with organic pigments and resins before being hot-pressed. This manufacturing process gives Valchromat mechanical properties superior to conventional fibreboard panels and provides it with a unique aesthetic.
What are the main differences from standard MDF?
Valchromat differs from traditional MDF in several ways:
- Through-colouring: the colour runs through the entire thickness of the panel, allowing visible cuts without colour loss. As such, Valchromat is particularly suited to projects where appearance matters: custom furniture, professional interiors, etc.
- Higher density: around 830 kg/m³ versus 700 kg/m³ for standard MDF. This results in better mechanical strength and greater stability.
- Better resistance to moisture and impacts.
Thanks to its homogeneous colouring and enhanced technical characteristics, Valchromat is a material that offers far greater versatility than standard MDF panels.
What are the common uses of Valchromat?
This innovative material is especially popular for interior design and décor projects that require complex cuts and a refined finish. Typical applications include:
- Bespoke furniture: bookcases, shelves, tables, drawer fronts, storage units, etc.
- Interior fit-outs: decorative partitions, designer doors, wall claddings, etc.
- Fitting wet areas (excluding zones in direct contact with water): bathrooms, kitchens, splashbacks, etc.
- Professional spaces: reception counters, displays, trade-show furniture, HoReCa furniture, etc.
Its ability to combine strength, aesthetics and customization makes it a material of choice—whether you’re an interior designer or an enthusiastic DIYer.
